Wireless networking allows you to share files, Internet access and more between multiple computers. It allows you to move your computer or add new devices without having to worry about cable connections. To create your wireless network, you will need to set up your wireless router. The router distributes data to all devices on the network, so it is crucial to set it up correctly in order to keep the network secure.

Install the Router
1.Unplug your cable or DSL modem and router to turn them off.
2.Connect an Ethernet cable from the port on the back of the cable or DSL modem to the port on the wireless router labeled "WAN."

3. Plug in the modem and router to turn them on. The lights on the front of the devices should flash for a few seconds while they boot.
Configure the Router
4. Connect an Ethernet cable from the port on the back of your computer to one of the open ports on the wireless router. The open ports on the router will likely be labeled by a number.
5. Open a web browser on your computer and enter the web address that is listed in the router's user manual.
6. Change the router's default user name and password. This will allow you to connect other devices to your network and keep it secure.
7. Disconnect the cable that connects the computer to the router. The wireless network is now set up and will recognize any device that tries to connect.

Tips & Warnings
Position your router in a central location of the home. This will provide the best coverage.
Moving the router off the floor and away from large metal objects will reduce interference.
If the router is not recognizing a device on the network, hit the reset button on the router.
If you do not change the router's password an individual could gain access to your network. Each manufacturer's routers always come with the same default password installed.
